"You know you're in Aiken because the
auto traffic stops at the intersection of Whiskey
Road and Easy Street to let you ride your horse into
the Hitchcock Woods. There the century-old polo
fields are to the polo player what West Point is to
the soldier and Annapolis to the sailor."
-- Polo Magazine
"Polo has played an integral role in
the history of Aiken, South Carolina. From the
1800s, when Aiken was famous for its "Winter Colony"
of wealthy easterners, to the 1960s when Aiken was
hailed as the "Polo Center of the South".
Today, polo is still played at
Whitney Field, the site of the longest consecutive
period of play on one field in the United States.
And now, with the establishment of Langdon Road Polo
Club and New Bridge Polo and Country Club, Florida-level polo returns to Aiken with high-goal
tournament action!
Steeped in tradition, the Aiken Polo
Club hosts club polo interspersed with exciting
medium-goal tournaments.
